Narrative
This sculpture was my first welded object. I learnt a great deal throughout the process of designing, and producing it. The biggest lesson I took from it is that ideas without the ability to execute, are only ideas. Sometimes you have to prove that your bite is as vicious as your bark, and wisdom is in learning from ones mistakes.
Artist notes
- The ball bearings are arranged in a double helix which makes this sculpture a large compression spring.
- The sculpture vibrates and can be ‘tuned’ or ‘plucked’ like guitar string.
- A new welding method was developed in the making of this sculpture.
Technical information
- 181 steel plates & 1237 steel ball-bearings.
