Narrative
This sculpture marks my first welded piece, and I gained a lot through the process of both designing and creating it. The most important lesson I learned was that ideas are just ideas without the skill to bring them to life. At times, you need to show that your actions are as strong as your words, and true wisdom comes from learning through mistakes.
Artist notes
- The ball bearings are arranged in a double helix which makes this sculpture a large compression spring.
- The sculpture vibrates and can be ‘tuned’ or ‘plucked’ like guitar string.
- A new welding method was developed in the making of this sculpture.
Technical information
- 181 steel plates & 1237 steel ball-bearings.
